Mini-golfing and summertime go hand-in-hand here in Maine, and Troop 1435 was over the moon to play a little putt-putt for their very first troop outing this July! The group of six Daisies and Brownies decided on the activity after some deliberation between local things to do—ultimately opting for golf after recognizing that a same-day road race would make traffic an obstacle.
The girls gathered before noon to head over to Moose Mountain Adventure Park in Richmond where they kicked off the day with a wholesome game of mini-golf.
“The place was packed, but the girls did a very well with being patient and polite,” says Troop 1435 Leader Jessica Stockmar.
As a newly formed troop, the outing offered the girls a perfect opportunity to connect, have fun, and learn a thing or two about putting.
“Most of the girls had never even held a golf club before and we didn’t have a lot of time to instruct them due to how busy it was, so we just let them learn from each other and went with the flow,” says Jessica.
Although most of the troop got a little tired around the eleventh hole, they still had a blast. After working up quite the appetite from their friendly game, the girls moved to the adventure park’s tree-house gazebo for some pizza! No perfect summer day is complete without a sweet treat. Troop 1435 finished off the afternoon with a little ice cream and a round of singing “Ring Around the Rosie.”
“I liked learning something new and just walking the course with my friends. But I also liked the ice cream part!” Says Scarlett, a Daisy within the troop.
“I had so much fun playing mini-golf with my friends,” says Marley, another Daisy.
When asked what her biggest takeaway from the successful troop’s very first field trip, Jessica says that it isn’t always about what Girl Scouts do, just that they get to do it together.
