Five Cadettes and two leaders from Troop 910 hopped on a Greyhound bus from Portland headed to the Big Apple for an overnight trip they won’t soon forget.
Over the course of the five-day adventure, the girls visited all of the top city to-do’s: the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the Empire State Building, 5th Avenue, and so many more. Although they adored simply walking around the endless streets and wandering through the city that never sleeps, a unanimous favorite activity was seeing Wicked on Broadway.
“Four out of five of our girls are involved in drama, so seeing a Broadway show was an amazing experience for them,” says Troop 910 Leader Jana Richardson.
Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without tasting each the many food staples that the city has to offer.
“We tried a few different places for a classic New York slice. They tried New York style cheesecake, bagels, and ate dinner at an authentic family style Italian restaurant,” says Jana.
According to Jana, the girls were extremely observational during the entirety of the trip, often noting the differences in sounds and smells between the big city and smalltown Maine.
Despite all the incredible memories and adventures that the girls will remember forever, they were grateful to be back in Maine with fresh air and pine trees galore after their unforgettable New York City escapades.
“The girls were so well behaved, and really soaked it all in […] throughout our trip, we frequently reminded them that it was their many hours of cold (and sometimes hot) days selling cookies that got them there,” says Jana.
