GUILFORD—While most may think of floating on water when the Piscataquis River comes to mind, Troop 883 prefers the parade! Friends, family, and newcomers from far and wide gathered in Guilford on Saturday, July 29, for a fun-filled day to celebrate the town’s beautiful river.
The festivities kicked off with a 5K morning race followed by a high-energy parade along Elm and Water Street in downtown Guilford. Three girls from Troop 883 decided to join in on the excitement this year by creating their very own camping themed float!
“The girls loved seeing smiles on people’s faces and being recognized by their friends in the parade,” says Troop 883 Leader Ashley Haverfield from Parkman.
After “Central Maine’s Best Parade” finished up around mid-morning, other interactive activities took off. Between the endless food trucks, craft vendors, games, live music, water slides, and even a pie-eating contest—attendees were seldom bored throughout the afternoon.
“Our biggest takeaway as leaders, was letting the girls show off their creativity with the float. They all had some really great ideas, and we found a way to incorporate them all,” says Ashley.
The perfect day was capped off with a firework show finale for the books. Be sure to look out for next year’s festival—this is one you and your Girl Scouts won’t want to miss!
