Paris isn’t the only location for the Olympic Games this year.
Bangor Troop 1344 took the international competition into their own hands with their first-ever Girl Scout Olympics!
“Our girls had mentioned earlier in the summer that they were excited for the Olympics […] it seemed like a great way to celebrate,” says Troop 1344 Leader Elyse Bronson.
They kicked off the activity at a local park with a true opening ceremony after making their own torches, flags, and fanfare. Then the games began!
“We did a relay race using big sponges to fill buckets with water—to represent water sports—and an obstacle course that tied in soccer, basketball, and gymnastics,” says Elyse.
After all that competition, Troop 1344 worked up quite the appetite and needed a snack to match the theme of the day. Edible torches were on the menu, made from yogurt-filled ice cream cones adorned with fruit. With a little influence from the French, they also snacked on Nutella crepes while participating in a trivia game.
“Ever since they were Daises, our troop’s favorite thing to do at every meeting is have a ‘snacktivity,’ so making the edible torches with their choice of toppings was a huge hit,” says Elyse.
Following the jam-packed day of festivities, the troop discussed which Olympic events they were looking forward to watching most on TV!
