After a completing the Junior Crane Design Challenge, Troop 1051 took their engineering knowledge to water as they took part in the Paddle Boat Challenge. The girls made their own paddle boats and learned everything about boat operation from buoyancy, to potential energy, to kinetic energy, and more!
Over the course of the activity, the girls chose one of two boat designs to recreate using rubber bands, pencils, cardboard, and other everyday items. Then came the fun part—putting the boats in the deep end! The troop got to test out their new vessels in large tubs of water to see how well they would stay afloat.
Although the girls had a blast participating in their first engineering challenge, the Paddle Boat activity was declared to be “even better,” and gave plenty of opportunities to test, revise, and test again!
