What’s better than a good old-fashioned ballgame on a warm fall day in Boston? When Girl Scouts are in attendance of course!
When Portland Troop 1240 heard about Girl Scout Day at Fenway Park, they knew they had to go and cheer on their favorite baseball team, the Red Sox. Thanks to this awesome annual opportunity, Girl Scouts had the chance to attend a game at a discounted rate, participate in a pre-game parade, and receive a custom Red Sox 2024 patch!
“The Girl Scouts got to walk the field before the game, and some leaders were recognized on the field as well,” says Troop 1240 Leader Julia Dilger.
Julia, accompanied by co-leader Katie, brought along four Juniors from the troop as well as her daughter, a Daisy Girl Scout Juliette. With their good luck Girl Scout charms in the stands, the Red Sox pulled out an incredible win against their opponents, making the occasion even more of one to celebrate.
“The Red Sox crushed the Twins nine to one, with one player, Casas, hitting three home runs,” says Julia.
Since this was both Julia and her daughter’s first time attending a Red Sox game, the win felt extra special.
“The girls had a lot of fun, we got to meet some Girl Scouts from other states, eat all the fun park food, and we even got souvenir cups to bring home,” says Julia.
After a day of standard baseball fare like hot dogs, popcorn, pretzels, and more, the Girl Scouts built up an appetite for a fun dinner at Kowloon, a favorite stopover on the way home before finishing the long drive back to Portland.
