This past June, a group of adventurous Girl Scouts from Troop 134 eagerly packed their bags and embarked on an unforgettable journey south to the heart of New York City! Venturing all the way from Androscoggin County’s small town of Greene, the hopeful travelers couldn’t wait for a taste of the bustling metropolis they’d heard so much about.
“Their home base was a cozy stay at a fellow Girl Scout’s place in Brooklyn, giving them the perfect blend of local charm and big city excitement,” says Troop 134 Leader Cherie Poole.
Taking on their first NYC morning with an authentic Brooklyn breakfast at the Bay Ridge Diner, the girls feasted on pancakes, eggs, and laughter—a meal sure to fuel their day of urban escapades.
“Next up was a visit to the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art. The girls wandered through ancient artifacts and modern masterpieces, taking in the rich history and vibrant culture on display,” says Cherie.
After their trip to the museum, the Girl Scouts decided they were due for a ride through Central Park… on pedicabs of course!
“The highlight? Performing the Friendship Circle right in the park’s heart, a perfect symbol of their strong bonds and the spirit of Girl Scouts,” says Cherie.
After the sun went down, and city awoke, the group made their way to the bright lights of Times Square. Despite the jampacked crowd, they danced their way through the chaos. Plus, no trip to the Big Apple is complete with a proper Broadway show and Troop 134 made sure to check it off their list!
“They headed to see the magical Harry Potter the next day, the performance left everyone spellbound and full of wonder,” says Cherie.
Of course, the troop couldn’t leave the city without some traditional New York sweets. They hit up the Hershey Store and Girl Scout Central to satisfy their souvenir and chocolate cravings before stopping at the Stardust Diner for a meal complete with a singing waitstaff. Talk about breakfast and a show! After filling up, the Girl Scouts made one last venture aboard the State Island Ferry to soak up stunning views of the Statue of liberty.
“Troop 134's NYC adventure was truly a trip to remember, showcasing the best of what the Girl Scouts are all about: friendship, fun, and fantastic experiences!” Says Cherie.
