LISBON—Peace, Love, and Moxie was the theme of this year’s Moxie Festival, an annual celebration in Lisbon honoring Maine’s favorite soda. The three-day festival is jam-packed with activities, live music, competitions, fireworks, and the highlight, a Moxie Day parade.
Eight troops from the Dirigo Service Unit from Daisies to Ambassadors showed up and showed out to the festival with an impressive float covered in groovy flowers and Moxie lingo to match this year’s theme.
“Since the theme was ‘Peace, Love, and Moxie’ we made a Volkswagen bus from cardboard and mounted it on a trailer,” says Dirigo Service Unit Manager, Heather Perry.
All their hard work proved to be worthwhile as the Girl Scouts came out on top with an award for “Most Moxie Non-Commerical,” – way to go girls!
Aside from their ornate parade vessel, the girls made posters, T-shirts, and other decorations in the classic Moxie orange and blue that every Mainer has become familiar with. During the parade, the girls sang songs and handed out candy to excited parade viewers as they passed by.
“The older girls really enjoyed being able to teach the littles, and the little ones loved spending time with them,” says Heather.
According to Heather, this is Dirigo’s largest group in many years and she can’t wait to see them band together for more fun events.
