Sometimes it can be easy to take the little things that we have everyday access to, for granted: clean water, nutritious food, roofs over our heads, and most importantly…fresh air!
Earlier this month, Troop 2113 embarked on the Breathe Journey to do their part in educating themselves on the air around them and the many different ways one can help keep it clean.
In order to stay up to date with the facts, the troop looked into wind energy and got firsthand information from an expert engineer who works with wind turbines. But clean air goes far beyond the science of what’s around us, what goes on inside is important too!
“We looked at a model of a working lung and learned about the importance of a healthy respiratory system […] throughout the journey, we saw the importance of plants and the benefits of having house plants to improve air quality and mental health,” says Troop 2113 Leader Samantha Colby.
After extensive research, the troop rounded out the Breathe Journey with the help of a local Lowe’s Home Improvement store.
“We ‘adopted’ plants out to public places and put fun facts on them to help educate people on the benefits of having plants inside,” says Samantha.
You can find Troop 2113’s plants in local Berwick business such as the walk-in care center, library, town hall, and school.
“We hope that our plants will improve the quality of air in our community while educating people about the importance of clean air for our physical and mental health,” says Samantha.
