Having good manners means more than just saying “please” and “thank you,” that’s why Troop 673 took time during their recent troop meetings to learn more about social awareness!
Twelve Girl Scouts from Troop 673 completed the Social Butterfly badge, aimed at building social skills, polite manners, and do’s and don’ts of eating out.
To begin working on the badge, the troop first learned about starting conversations and how to act and react in different social settings. During the next step, the Girl Scouts split into two groups to reenact dinner settings and practice proper etiquette.
“The next week, we put those skills to the test at Goldfinch Creamery Café and Bakery in Gardner. We had a tea party where we learned what to do if we do not like certain items to eat and how to pass items at a table,” said Troop Leader Jenn Gagne.
Overall, the troop enjoyed the tea party and coming up with creative skits to practice their new expertise.
“I learned what to do if I don’t like something to eat, I just leave it on my plate,” said a Girl Scout.
“I learned to use manners everywhere,” says another.
Great work, Troop 673, we’re happy to know that twelve new social butterflies have emerged from Gardiner!
