Junior Girl Scout Troop 521 from Topsham spent the day in the bustling city of Boston for an afternoon of activities both under the sea and on top of it!
On Saturday, twelve girls and four adults from the troop hopped on the train in Brunswick and traveled south in style. Upon entering the city, the girls navigated on foot, walking from North Station to the New England Aquarium. At the aquarium, the troop got to see, learn, and even interact with hundreds of different marine species such as fish, turtles, octopus, sea lions, and much more before doing some souvenir-shopping.
“The girls really enjoyed selecting goodies at the gift shop,” says Troop 521 Leader Rebecca Drewette-Card.
Later in the afternoon, everyone piled onto a duck boat for an exciting tour around the city—a new experience for the entire troop to share.
“I think it was the first duck boat ride for all of us! The girls loved getting to “drive” the boat,” says Rebecca.
Rebecca highly recommends a trip to Boston for any troops who have an interest in changing scenery. Her advice is to break up into smaller groups, prioritize group rates for outings to get the best deal possible, and plan, plan, plan ahead!
“Set clear behavior and safety expectations up front—discuss them multiple times at meetings and on the train ride down. It really helped set us up for success,” says Rebecca.
After all that walking, talking, learning, and excitement, the girls worked up quite the appetite and enjoyed pizza on the train ride home while reflecting on their favorite parts of the day.
