Girl Scout Seniors in Troop 507 of Sabattus attended the Global Leadership Conference in Newport, Rhode Island.
There, the Girl Scouts were able to choose which activities benefited them, meet and open up to their peers, and find a sense of peace within themselves.
“I am typically a shy person, so finding the confidence in myself to walk up to people from different parts of the world, and make some good friendships was a really big takeaway for me,” says Girl Scout Senior Cheyenne.
The conference lasted the entire weekend, and the Girl Scouts attended with their troop leaders.
“There were quite a few takeaways that I brought back with me, but I think the couple that stood out the most was how as a leader we are influencers. The girls that we interact with in our lives are constantly watching us,” says Troop 507 Leader Marie Nault. “That made me realize that actions speak louder than words.”
The conference helped broaden their social circles and taught them new things about themselves and what they can achieve.
“I would recommend it to other troops because I learned so much about confidence, and I felt free to be me. I felt more alive and comfortable being the teen I should be,” says Cheyenne. “I really had the time of my life, filled with laughter and smiles.”
