It’s no secret that food is one of the best ways to connect with others, that’s why Troop 1430 took part in a kid’s cooking class this fall!
Eight Daisies and Brownies got into chef mode with MEPowered Pastries, Maine’s only kid-focused bakery offering cooking classes out of their Scarborough-based kitchen.
Since they don’t have access to cooking materials or a stove in their own troop meeting space, taking part in a culinary activity was high on Troop 1430’s list when deciding what to put some of their funds toward.
“We created a list of ideas we wanted to do as a troop and cooking was one of the activities […] I searched for kids cooking places and MEPowered Pastries came up,” says Kristina Tobey Troop 1430 Leader.
Following the theme of multicultural month, the group decided to make individual tres leches cakes. According to Kristina, the activity was not only fun, but also prompted the group to ask several interesting questions and practice beginner cooking skills like cracking eggs and how to safely use an oven.
“It was so much fun. Seeing their faces light up the whole time was worth every moment. Even though there little, they can great cooks,” says Kristina, who recommends working with MEPowered Pastries for any troop interested in a culinary activity!
