Five environmentally focused Girl Scouts from Troop 673, Ava, Jillian, Sophia, Delanie, and Payton tackled the issue of pollution for their Bronze Award project this year by organizing a playground cleanup club!
“The goal of this project was to make the world a better place by creating a club to clean up trash at two local schools,” says Troop 673 Leader Mariah Adams.
Focusing their cleanup initiative on River View Community School and the Pittston-Randolph Consolidated School, the five awardees donated supplies such as gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers, and posters to reiterate the importance of keeping shared outdoor school spaces clean. They also spoke at an assembly to spread the word about the new club!
“The impact of this project will be seen in the future at these schools as they have spoken with teachers who will keep the club going,” says Mariah.
Active listening, public speaking, and task delegation were just a few of the many skills learned throughout the process of completing their Bronze Award project.
“Mostly, these girls really learned how to work as a team towards one common goal,” says Mariah.
