Lights, camera, cookies! Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts from Troop 1136 got the chance to work with WAGM’s Creative Videographer, Dan Stairs, to create their very own promotional cookie videos at the Girl Scout Cookie Commercial Program in January.
Before meeting for in-person filming, Troop 1136’s commercial crew met with Dan via Zoom to discuss the commercial process and learn about all the behind-the-scenes moving parts such as green screens, sound effects, scripts, music, and props.
“We previewed several commercials for inspiration and ideas and were able to ask Dan questions about the process of making them,” says Troop 1136 Leader Ashley Hull.
During their next troop meeting, the crew developed a script, created a prop list, and rehearsed for the final in-person show. On the morning of their recording, the Girl Scouts met with Dan to practice and make last-minute edits before going live.
“Each troop spent about an hour filming their commercial and Dan did a fantastic job. His enthusiastic spirit encouraged the actors and shared his expertise,” says Ashley.
After filming, the commercial went to Dan for professional editing and a little videography magic. Troop 1136 gained tons of new hard and soft technical skills when it comes to storyboarding and video editing, and they can’t wait to see the final version!
“This was a great experience for our Girl Scouts to be creative, learn about technology, and build their confidence. This allowed troops to enhance their communication skills, problem-solving, and ability to collaborate with one another,” says Ashley.
