Troop 500 makes “Firefighter Survival Kits”

Firefighter Survival Kits from Troop 500

DURHAM — Eight Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 500 made 40 survival kits for volunteer firefighters and paramedics at the Durham Fire Department!

Each kit included different types of candies, gum, and snacks, as well as a certificate signed by troop members. Girls were able to tour the station, and even see a rescue boat that was donated by Stephen King!

Troop Leader Linda Morris said, “They were so proud to make the survival kits and had so much fun in the process. The fire department personnel that were there during our visit were great and so thankful to the girls for thinking of them. It really made me proud to see the girls so engaged and the personnel being so thankful to the girls.”

“Partnering with our local Girl Scout troop, we were able to bring young girls and their parents right into our station for a tour and lesson on fire safety. One benefit to this is the opportunity to show the Girl scouts Scouts that they can grow up to be firefighters and paramedics. Seeing other female members that have achieved their goals of certification and education, while providing mentorship is a positive step in that direction,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert Tripp.

What a great way to show your support and appreciation, girls! You rock!
