For their Bronze Award project, Girls Scouts Ellie, Ashlyn, and Isla from Troop 1232, organized a town wide roadside cleanup in Hope.
“The impact this project had on the community was to bring awareness to the amount of litter disposed of on our roadsides and to bring people together to help clean up and keep our town beautiful,” says Troop Leader Megan Porter.
Along with their efforts to keep Hope roads clean, the Girl Scouts also worked on collecting donations for the Knox County Homeless Coalition. With the help of their local community, the girls were able to collect plenty of scarves, hats, gloves, and toiletry products in order to make gift bags to be distributed by the coalition.
“We learned that when people come together, you can accomplish much more. We also learned how to communicate with different organizations to help facilitate our project,” says Megan.
Over the course of their project between April and May, the girls developed tons of new skills such as community organizing, storytelling, addressing community needs, team building, problem solving, and several others.
Great work, Troop 1232! Thank you for keeping the Hope community strong and the roads clean!
