SOUTH PORTLAND—Girl Scouts of Maine (GSME) is thrilled to announce the appointment of new members to our board of directors and senior leadership team. They each bring a wealth of unique experience and passion to their roles, furthering our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
Cheryl Sommer joins GSME as the VP of Finance. Cheryl is an accomplished nonprofit finance and accounting professional with extensive experience in U.S. GAAP, financial statement audits, and nonprofit internal controls. Her journey began in St. Louis, Missouri, where she consulted for various nonprofits and served as Association Endowment Accounting Manager for the Gateway Region YMCA. Since moving to Maine in 2019, Cheryl has excelled in audit engagements with Albin, Randall, & Bennett CPAs. She is committed to financial and operational excellence within the council, supporting the development of girls as they give back to their communities.
Effective in July, Deirdre Clifford will be joining GSME as the VP of Development. Originally from Massachusetts where she first began her Girl Scout journey as a youth member, Deirdre relocated to Maine in 2019. With several years of nonprofit experience, most recently with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine where she served as the Director of Donor Engagement and Marketing. Deirdre’s impressive background makes her an invaluable asset to furthering GSME’s mission and fundraising strategies. Deirdre is eager to join the organization and ready to empower girls to take the lead.
Patrick Morin of Brunswick was reelected and will continue to serve as the treasurer of the board and chair the finance audit committee. With both of his daughters benefiting from their Girl Scout experiences, Patrick works tirelessly to provide similar opportunities for other girls. He is the Principal of the Information Systems Risk & Assurance practice at Baker Newman & Noyes in Portland and is actively involved with several organizations, including Greater Portland Landmarks and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine.
Julia Clukey of Presque Isle joins the board as an at-large member. Julia is the Vice President of People & Engagement at MMG Insurance with nearly 15 years of experience in leadership and human resources. An accomplished athlete, Julia competed in the 2010 Olympics and has been inducted into both the Maine Sports Hall of Fame and the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame. She founded Julia Clukey’s Camp for Girls, providing middle school girls with leadership development opportunities. Julia is passionate about empowering young women and supporting Girl Scouts.
Tiffany Dembowski of Portland joins the board as an at-large member. Tiffany is the Maine State Counsel and Vice President for the FNF Family of Companies. With degrees in History and Art History, and a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, Tiffany has a strong educational background. A former Girl Scout and camp counselor, she values the supportive environment and strong female role models she encountered at Girl Scout camp. Tiffany serves on the Board of Directors for MEREDA and enjoys exploring Maine with her wife and border collie, Mac.
Colleen Golden of Falmouth joins the board as an at-large member. Colleen is the Director of Ecommerce Applications at L.L.Bean. Passionate about mentoring girls and women, Colleen is a Big Sister in the BBBS program and a Facilitator at the Center for Grieving Children. She values the leadership development focus of Girl Scouts and is the proud mother of four adult children and four grandchildren.
Winter Williams of Saco joins the board as an at-large member. Winter is a 10th grader at Thornton Academy, has been a Girl Scout for 11 years, is a member of GSME’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG), and has served for two years as an emcee at GSME’s Annual Celebration. Winter is excited to join the board of directors to enhance the image of Girl Scouts and believes the organization has equipped her with the tools necessary to make a change and amplify her voice.
Girl Scouts of Maine CEO Mara Robinov-Moorhead adds, “We are confident that these new members will bring fresh perspectives and unwavering dedication to our organization, helping us continue to inspire and empower the girls of Maine. Together, we will continue to create adventures, learning opportunities, and future leaders.”
