SOUTH PORTLAND—Selling Girl Scout Cookies may sound like nothing more than taking orders and making deliveries, but it’s so much more than that. Troops 2113 and 587 know better than anyone just how complex the world of buying, selling, and marketing is when it comes to raising money for something you believe in. Both troops attended a “Planning and Marketing Your Cookie Biz” workshop at Best Buy in South Portland for that very reason.
Troop 2113 leader, Samantha Colby said, “Our girls are really interested in how to start and market a business. They also love to use technology and get creative.”
Over the course of the day-long program, the girls learned how to research their product, create eye-catching posters, and even had the opportunity to script and film a real cookie sales video! The workshop was run by Liz, a Best Buy employee with a knack for sales and marketing.
Samantha said, “The girls really liked working with Liz, she was positive and enthusiastic about the whole experience. She was able to help some of the girls in one-on-one with research and scriptwriting.”
According to Samantha, the biggest takeaway from the day was watching the girls successfully divide tasks and create material that they will use later this year to boost sales and spread their message.
“I am hoping that this workshop got the girls excited about marketing. We have two girls who are working towards a free week of summer camp and they are off to a great start with sales.” Said Samantha.
These troops are ready to promote their cookie businesses in style this season!
