AUBURN — Evelyn Blouin, a Girl Scout Brownie from troop 5043, is a natural when it comes to giving sales-pitches.
While going door-to-door and using her exuberant spirit and entrepreneurial skills to sell nuts, candy, and magazines for the Girl Scout Fall Product Program, Blouin noticed someone gardening.
She jumped right in to help, iridescent pink Crocs and all.
“I helped with the tweezer cutter and cut off some huge dead flowers to help the plant. The lady told me she used to be a Girl Scout too and it was really cool.” said Blouin.
That someone was Jamey Martin, a former Girl Scout, troop leader, and camp counselor. She knew that the money raised from the Fall Product Program would go towards Evelyn’s goal of earning a free week at camp, and wanted to contribute.
Blouin’s troop leader, Jamie Ribisi-Braley was there helping Blouin, and said, “Hearing her offer to help Jamey with her gardening was not a surprise at all because Evelyn is impulsively kind. That is the sort of energy and kindness that I hope to continue to support in our girls because kindness spreads a very long way. Evelyn made me see that we weren't only trying to get the support of our friends that day, but we were also there to support them and let them know they have a helping hand in us.”
Blouin’s mother, Sara, said “Seeing Evelyn jump right in to help really amazes me. She is such a bright spirit. Being in Girl Scouts has brought out the true meaning of community and friendship for her. She has a great time socializing and hopefully making lasting friendships, all while learning about strong women role models and empowering life skills.”
Evelyn is living up to the Girl Scout mission and her thoughtfulness, cheerful spirit, and entrepreneurial skills are not going unnoticed in her community.
