Troop 2113 had a ‘wheel’ good time making clay creations at Portland Pottery this November! Four Cadettes from the Berwick troop participated in the activity, learning about shaping, glazing, and getting creative.
“Pottery was something that came up at a brainstorming session for ideas we could do this year and after some difficulty finding a place that would host us at an affordable price, we found a party option at Portland Pottery,” says Troop 2113 Leader Samantha Colby.
Although the activity wasn’t specifically part of a badge or patch program, Samantha says the troop has been focused on making memories while learning new skills together—both of which they successfully experienced at Portland Pottery.
“We loved our instructor and how funny he was, we laughed a lot. We also learned that it was okay to make mistakes and start over,” says Samantha.
Each Girl Scout made four or five bowls throughout the pottery session, and although it was a first-time craft, some even said they’d like to go back again to practice their sculpting skills more! After getting their creative juices flowing, the troop recapped how much fun the activity was over a yummy lunch out!
“I have watched these girls grow up together, they are very different in many ways but each time they get together they have so much fun. The friendships they have with each other are special connections that will last a lifetime,” says Samantha.
