Kasey Jordan's Mission to Give Back

Kasey, Tim, and Lorise Jordan, all Girl Scouts, have made a total of 4393 masks. That is 60,200 inches in elastic, 235,200 inches in thread, and 400 yards of fabric!

Kasey Jordan a Senior Girl Scout from Troop 422 in Lamoine, involved her whole family in her mission to give back. Over the past 7 weeks she and her grandparents, who are also Girl Scouts, jumped into action making masks after hearing about the need in their community. Girl Scouts always recycle and use resources wisely, so after digging through the stash of quilt fabrics in the house, they got to work quickly.
They worked together cutting the fabric and elastic, pinning elastics in place, and sewing the masks to get them out the door as fast as they could be made to meet the new demand. To date they have made and donated 3,300 masks. Friends continue to come through with more donated material and elastic, so Kasey and her grandparents, keep on sewing!
The masks have been donated to a Woman’s and Infant Hospital for Maternal Fetal Medicine, Martin’s Point Health Care, Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor, Courtland Rehabilitation, Northern Light Acadia Hospital in Bangor, Northern Light Maine Coast, Mount Desert Island Hospital, several local businesses and numerous neighbors, family, and friends.
Kasey has been doing all of this while still attending her classes via remote learning! When not working on masks or doing schoolwork, she has been working on getting her proposal together for her Girl Scout Gold Award, putting puzzles together, or working in her garden. Way to go Kasey…you are doing amazing work and making a difference!
