Have you ever imagined designing your own fabric? For over 150 years, the talented designers at the Bates Manufacturing Art Department did exactly that, producing beautiful designs that were then woven into fabric. Join us at the Maine Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor (Maine MILL) for a fascinating tour of the Bates Mill, where we will explore the rich history of textile manufacturing in Central Maine. Following the tour, we will spend time in our gallery examining a variety of popular Bates designs and the unique materials utilized by the Art Department to create their drawings for the jacquard loom. Inspired by these historical designs, the you'll unleash your creativity and design your own textile patterns using pencils, pen and ink, colored pencils, and embellishments such as buttons and sequins. All necessary materials will be provided, and each Girl Scout will take home their original textile design artwork.
Girl Scouts must have an adult or troop leader to supervise them during the event. Troop Leaders: if you are registering your troop, please follow troop ratios.
A minimum of 10 Girl Scouts are needed in order to run this program.
