Five Juniors from Troop 673, Sophia, Paris, Olivia, Candice, and Laney completed their Bronze Award project in an effort to build awareness for something they all love: reading!
“The goal of their project was to make a make a space for children and adults in the Gardiner area to find books for free in a smaller area than the public library since some people can find the library too overwhelming,” says Troop 673 Leader Jenn Gagne.
While providing easy access to reading materials, Troop 673 says their library also encourages the idea of sharing what you have with your community—especially when it comes to books that you’ve already read or no longer have a purpose for.
After building their wooden library structure, they designed posters promoting the town’s newest addition, urging others to add and borrow books of their own.
“The original plan was to put a buddy bench along with the library in the Gardiner Park,” says Jenn.
Due to cost issues and town regulations, the troop had to change their plans and find a different location for the lending library to live. What seemed like a difficult obstacle, turned out to be key learning moment.
“We learned that it’s okay to change our mind and still be able to do something for our community,” says Jenn.
