Girl Scouts of Maine Appoints Mara Moorhead as New CEO

SOUTH PORTLAND/BANGOR—Girl Scouts of Maine (GSME) announced the appointment of Mara Moorhead as new CEO. Beginning July 11, 2022. Moorhead succeeds retired CEO Joanne Crepeau. Moorhead will oversee the statewide operations of Girl Scouts of Maine who has more than 8,500 girl and adult members.
"After a nationwide search, we are very excited to welcome Mara Moorhead as the new CEO for Girl Scouts of Maine,” said GSME Board of Directors President, Julia Munsey. Mara's non-profit leadership experience and commitment to making a difference in the world are a wonderful fit for GSME and we look forward to working with her."
Moorhead is an experienced strategic and innovative non-profit leader, successful in cultivating long-lasting and diverse stakeholder relationships. Most recently, as Chief Development Officer at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, she collaborated to create innovative curriculum and program strategies as well as designed, implemented, and sustained the organizations marketing and communications strategies. Prior to that, she was with United Way of Greater Portland.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play a role in helping thousands of young girls and teens to find and use their voices and to be leaders and stewards of our great state,” said Moorhead. “A primary focus will be around inclusivity and accessibility. We want to ensure that every girl in our state who wants to be a Girl Scout has access to our programs and services.”
Mara grew up in Portland where she attended Deering High School. She has her BA from Wellesley College and her Masters in Social Work from the University of New Hampshire. Mara began her career as a social worker at a group home for adolescent girls in Dover, NH. Her love of Maine and her family brought her back to the state. She found her way to non-profit work after running her own baked goods company and has spent the past 8 years fundraising for local organizations.
“This role is like coming full circle for me,” said Moorhead. “I am honored to lead this council to deliver the mission of Girl Scouts: building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”
