Flexibility and Balance

We offer all team members an extraordinary amount of flexibility and balance. How?

  • Closed on Fridays. Our regular workweek for in-based, full-time employees is a 4-day, 35-hour workweek with Fridays off!
  • Paid week-long winter shutdown. Our entire office shuts down for one week each year around the Christmas holiday. Combining the weeklong break with our three-day weekends means employees usually receive a consecutive 10-day break during the paid shutdown!
  • Generous vacation and sick leave. Full-time team members immediately begin accruing two weeks of paid vacation as well as twelve days of paid sick leave during your first year of employment. Paid time off is also available for part-time GSME staff.
  • Paid holidays. In addition to our generous sick and vacation leave and paid winter shutdown, we also close the office for approximately 9 other paid holidays.
  • Out-based Positions! Flexibility for office-based, hybrid, or primarily remote work is available for most roles. This means team members work primarily in their own homes and assigned communities. These positions typically offer even more flexible schedules based on business needs.

Full-time Opportunities
Camp Director

Girl Scouts of Maine has an immediate opening for a talented, dynamic director for Camp Pondicherry in Bridgton, in Maine’s beautiful Lakes Region. The Camp Director is a year-round position responsible for managing all aspects of camp, including the administration of resident camp, day camp, troop and family camp, off season events, and program events. The work of this position is integrated into the overall program goals of GSME, therefore, the Director participates in various collaborative council committees and efforts. The Camp Director ensures that program offerings are based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, customized to address the needs, preferences and interests of girls, and implemented to meet designated leadership program outcomes.

The Camp Director is based at the South Portland office in the off season. Work schedule can be hybrid which includes working remotely. During the summer months, Director must live on site at Camp Pondicherry (private apartment provided). Frequent in-state travel is required throughout the year. Additionally, evening and weekend work may arise during the year but is required during the summer.

Bookkeeper

The Bookkeeper supports the Director of Finance & Information Systems in the delivery of sound fiscal control and management of the council’s financial stability and financial operation. The position is responsible for daily accounting and other finance duties, and for applying knowledge of council policies and procedures as they relate to the accounting processes.

This position is office-based with a 35-hour work week (Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.); may be required to work outside of normally scheduled hours occasionally. A hybrid schedule permitting working from home one day per week may be possible.

Part-time Opportunities
Facility Assistant (Camp Pondicherry)

The Facility Assistant works under the direction of the Senior Site Manager completing camp maintenance assignments and tasks including but not limited to cleaning, mowing and trimming, building maintenance, and repairs at Camp Pondicherry in Bridgton.

This position is part time and works 16 hours per week, which varies seasonally.  The busiest months are March – October, with some flexibility on hours the remainder of the year.

Camp Pondicherry is a 650-acre year-round program center owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Maine. A summer camp for girls is held on the site during the summer months; the remainder of the year there are many routine repairs and improvements to be made, as well as monitoring of weekend group rentals.

Camp Administrative Assistant

The Camp Administrative Assistant provides administrative and clerical support for the council’s Outdoor Operations team. While the position reports to the Director of Outdoor Operations, she/he will work closely with all members of the team to provide year round support.

This position is part time, 25 hours per week and based in our Bangor office. Work schedule can be hybrid (combination of working from the office and working remotely). Frequent in-state travel is required throughout the year. Additionally, evening and weekend work may arise during the year but is required during the summer.
