Silver Award Girl Scouts, Ashley, Michaela, and Isabella

Ashley, Michaela, and Isabella

Recreation Drive Child Play Area

Ashley, Michaela, and Isabella observed younger siblings of sports players being disengaged, not interested, and generally bored at their athletic events, sometimes cause unsafe conditions by wandering off. After gathering data from the Youth Athletic Association and talking with multiple people in their town, they presented their idea of creating a play space to their Town Council and were granted approval. The girls lived the Girl Scout Law of using resources wisely through their project by largely creating the play space with repurposed materials. This safe play space will support families for years to come. Isabella said that she discovered that, “When I set a goal and really want to reach it, I can push myself to work towards it.” Michaela’s advice to other girls working towards their Silver Award is, “Time management and budgeting can be challenging. But I learned [through my project] to manage my time better and not procrastinate.”
