Happiness Hats

Alyssa observed many people in her community struggling to make ends meet, even for the most basic of items, such as hats. She learned that wearing a hat in cold weather maintains your body temperature and that hats are one of the most highly requested items at area homeless shelters. She decided to take her love of knitting and team up with the local library’s knitting group to develop a program to teach people how to knit a simple hat and donate it to a local homeless shelter.

Alyssa held Sit-and-Knits, which taught people how to knit and also connected them with area homeless shelters to donate their knitted items. A goal Alyssa set for her program was to donate 150 hats. She surpassed her goal and was able to teach people how to knit and donate over 175 hats!

Alyssa says that she lived the Girl Scout Law through her project by being considerate and caring and using her resources wisely. She hopes that her project made the world a better place.
