Abigail Ladd and Charlena LaVallee earn 2018 Silver Award

Noticing that their towns had limited parking spaces at their town halls, go-getters Charlena and Abigail decided to make sure that the veterans in their towns had accessible parking spaces to do their business around town.

The girls went before each of their town councils and convinced them to put up parking signs for veterans. Both towns agreed unanimously to allow the sign installation, one council even giving the girls a standing ovation after their presentation. The girls crated and installed the signs, and even had enough funds to ensure multiple signs were made in case of theft or vandalism.

Charlena says “veterans became veterans because they possessed the honor, bravery, and patriotism that they needed to stand up for our country.” Girl Scouts like Charlena and Abigail possess the qualities that show true leadership, and show us how we can all make the world a better place.
