That's what our camp staff and counselors experience when they join our Girl Scout Summer Camp team.

Our summer staff are recruited from around the world. They are college students, mothers, teachers, and others who enjoy working with children. They all complete an application and interview, provide references, and undergo a formal background check. All staff complete an intensive pre-camp training orientation before campers arrive. We host two resident camps with 30-40 staff and up to 60-130 girls who attend one (1) week to four (4) week sessions during our 6 week season.

Spend a wonderful summer on staff at a Girl Scouts of Maine Camp! We have two resident camps with 30-40 staff and up to 60-130 girls who attend one (1) week to four (4) week sessions during our 5 week season.

Camp staff assist in the day-to-day activities in their unit or programs areas and help maintain the health and safety of all campers. Staff should be enthusiastic, caring adults who are passionate about working with girls.

Unit/Program Leaders are in charge of supervising their assigned unit or program area. They recognize and respond to opportunities for problem-solving in the group. They also plan and develop unit specific programming. Unit/Program assistants aid in guiding unit and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities, with an eye towards meeting the needs of each camper. Both positions assist in developing girl-driven unit and program area activities.

Girl Scout of Maine’s Camp Pondicherry is located in the Western Maine foothills of the White Mountains. Pondicherry has a staff of 35-40 each summer and 80-120 campers each week that attend one (1) to four (4) week programs during our 6 week resident camp season.

Staff and campers spend their days taking part in many different activities: canoeing, paddle boarding, swimming, hiking, camping, high and low ropes, archery, arts, nature, songs, games, and campfires.  Staff members live 2 to 4 in a platform tent with a wooden floor and roof in a unit with the camper tents nearby. Staff are responsible for maintaining the health and safety of their campers and leading daily activities. Staff should be enthusiastic, caring adults who are passionate about working with girls.

Camp Administration:

Program Director
The Program Director oversees all programming aspects of camp which include activity teaching, planning and organizing evening programs, special events and girl choice periods. The Program Director also supervises unit and program staff, assists with camper transportation and does the scheduling. This position is key in the facilitation of GSME’s specific Trail Master Program. The Program Director is part of the Camp Admin Team and works closely with the Camp Director and others to assure safe and smooth daily camp operations. Must be at least 21 years old, have experience supervising others, and have a clean driving record.

The camp season runs from early June through Mid-August.

Waterfront Staffing:

Unit Lifeguards

Lifeguards teach skills in both the swimming and boating areas. Lifeguards live in units with campers and when not at the waterfront and assist with other programs such as arts, hiking, outdoor skills, archery and many more. Assist with the day-to-day activities and help maintain the health and safety of all campers in their unit. Applicants should be enthusiastic, caring adults who are passionate about working with girls. Must be age 18 or older. Lifeguard training provided.

The summer season runs from mid-June through mid/late August.

Unit Staffing:

Unit Leader & Unit Assistant

Unit Staff live in tent units with up to 3 other staff and up to 24 campers. Unit Staff are responsible for the health, safety and well-being of all campers in their unit. Unit Staff lead or assist with camper programs such as arts, hiking, outdoor skills, archery and many more. Applicants should be enthusiastic, caring adults who are passionate about working with girls. Unit Assistants must be age 18 or older and Unit Leaders must be age 21 or older.

The summer season runs from mid-June through mid-August.

Kitchen:

Kitchen Manager/Cook
Works as the manager of the kitchen team to manage the kitchen and dining hall. Job responsibilities include ordering, meal planning, budget, scheduling, meal preparation, cooking, inventory control, supervising other kitchen staff, and insuring proper cleaning of kitchen, dining hall and kitchen equipment. Current ServSafe certification required or ability to obtain. Training provided in Basic First Aid and CPR.

The summer season runs from mid-June through mid/late August.

Kitchen and Sanitation Assistant
Work as a member of team to assist cooks in the kitchen and dining hall. Job duties include , food preparation, dish-washing, cleaning the dining hall, kitchen equipment and other buildings at camp, restocking food items, and assisting with inventory. Training provided in Basic First Aid and CPR.

The summer season runs from mid-June through early August.

Staff Dress Up Day

Camp Natarswi has a long history of providing a unique camping experience for girls and we are celebrating our 85th summer this year! Camp Natarswi is a true wilderness paradise, providing a one-of-a-kind, rustic, Maine outdoor experience, all in the shadow of majestic Mt. Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak. Natarswi hugs the shoreline of Lower Togue Pond, a pristine lake where campers swim and enjoy paddle sports and sailing. Natarswi is located in Baxter State Park, home to awesome trails to hike, caves to explore, waterfalls to see, and peaks to climb.

At Camp Natarswi we have  25-32 staff and up to 60-100 girls who attend one (1) week to four (4) week sessions during our 6 week season.

Camp Administration
Program Director/Outdoorleadership Tripping advisor oversees all outdoor leadership, off-site trips, and Junior  Maine Guide programs and staffing in these areas as well as helping with camper transportation, camp-wide programs, scheduling, and managing pack-out preparations. Will ensure a quality, enriching program is offered to all girls; will also assume responsibility for the well-being of camp in the absence of the Camp Director or the Assistant Camp Director. Must have experience in Nature Education, Outdoor Living Skills, and the ability to demonstrate skills in the Junior Maine Guide program. Also must have 2 or more of the following: Large group games, leading trip (boat or Hiking), team challenge activities, Hiking or Rock-climbing. Experience supervising and must be 25 or older. The summer season runs from early June to August 9. Additional (optional) staffing opportunities in August and September on weekends.

Waterfront Assistant/ Operations
Will assist with waterfront and general camp operations.  Assist with directing and supervising the camp’s swimming and boating programs on the waterfront and boating areas.  Will assist with camper check-in, camper information, daily camp scheduling, dining hall duties, driving a camp van, and maintaining safety and sanitization. Priority is given to candidates with previous experience in 2 or more of the following watercraft: lifeguarding, sailing, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard; leadership experience preferred. Must be 21 or older with a clean driving record. We can assist in acquiring the Lifeguard certification.

The summer season runs from mid–June to the end of August. During August and September, we offer weekend Troop and Family camping opportunities. The employment period varies for staff members, ending August 9 to August 30 depending on staff positions. Additional (optional) staffing opportunities on September weekends only.

Waterfront Staffing

Must be age 18 or older. Must have experience or skills in a program area.

The summer season runs from mid–June to the end of August. During August and September, we offer weekend Troop and Family camping opportunities. CIT staff assist in the day-to-day leadership skill building for our older girls in the Counselor–In–Training program. Live in the unit and help maintain the health and safety of all campers. Seeking enthusiastic, caring adults who are passionate about working to help develop future leaders. Will recognize and respond to opportunities for problem-solving in the group. Plan and develop unit-specific programming for CIT, work with them to create and deliver programming to other campers. Help to guide the unit and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities, with an eye towards meeting the needs of each camper. Assist in developing girl-driven unit and program area activities. Must be age 20 or older.

The summer season runs from mid–June to the end of August. During August and September, we offer weekend Troop and Family camping opportunities. The employment period varies for staff members, ending August 9 to August 30 depending on staff positions. Additional staffing opportunities September weekends only.

Outdoor Leadership/Tripping Unit Leader
Plan, organize, and lead hiking and canoeing wilderness camping trips in Maine. Current Wilderness First Aid and lifeguarding certifications are required. We can assist candidates with previous experience leading wilderness trips or student experience with NOLS, Outward Bound, or a similar training organization in acquiring the necessary certifications. Must be age 21 or older, and have a clean driving record.

The summer season runs from mid–June to the end of August. During August and September, we offer weekend Troop and Family camping opportunities. The employment period varies for staff members ending August 9 to August 30 depending on staff positions. Additional (optional) staffing opportunities September weekends only.

Outdoor Leadership Unit Leader
Teach twenty-one (21) outdoor skills; plan, organize and lead hiking and canoeing camping trips in Maine. Seeking candidates with previous experience leading wilderness trips or student experience with NOLS, Outward Bound, or a similar organization. Current Wilderness First Aid and lifeguarding certifications are required. We can assist in acquiring the necessary certifications. Must be age 21 or older, and have a clean driving record.

Job duties include meal preparation, cooking, supervising the kitchen assistants or camp staff in the kitchen when Kitchen Manager/Cook is not present, restocking food items, and assisting with inventory, ensuring a clean dining hall and kitchen equipment,. Current ServSafe certification required or ability to obtain. Training provided in Basic First Aid and CPR.

The summer employment period varies for staff members starting between June 13- 20 and ending August 9- 30.

Kitchen and Sanitation Assistant

Summer Camp Nurse
Current R.N. Maine License or ability to obtain. Duties include: Review camper medical history/ forms before arrival and contact parents with questions, opening day check-in of campers, be available near the Health Center 24 hours a day and respond to emergencies, responsible for the general health and safety of all camp personnel and campers, and distribution of daily medications.

The summer season runs from June 18 to August 9. Weekend and Weekly nurse positions available.
