Training Requirements for Leaders

ORIENTATION

Troop leaders, advisors, co-leaders, and assistant leaders are required to take Orientation BEFORE meeting with a troop. In addition, any parent or volunteer who works with troops on a regular basis – at least 3 or 4 times a year – must take the Orientation course.

BASIC LEADERSHIP MULTI-LEVEL or TEEN ADVISOR

At least one member of the troop leadership team must complete Basic Leadership Multi-Level or Teen Advisor training BEFORE taking any trips or traveling beyond the troop meeting place.

FIRST AID and CPR TRAINING

One adult is required to take a current FIRST AID course and CPR training before going troop camping, or participating in other specific activities as found in Safety-Wise.  Contact the local American Red Cross chapter, or other approved organizations, for first aid courses, dates and locations.

TROOP CAMP TRAINING COURSES

An adult with Troop Camp Training must accompany troops going camping; this includes Camporees and when cooking outside. An adult is troop camp trained when they have completed Preparation for Troop Camp and Troop Camp Training Overnight.

TRAINING FOR EXTENDED TRIPS

The 3 Nights or More training must be taken before a troop begins planning for a trip lasting three nights or longer, or before taking an international trip. The course must be taken within six months before the trip.
