Food from the Heart
The Food from the Heart patch is a program that gets the Girl Scouts
involved with Food Cupboards throughout their community. By
February, food cupboards are looking for an infusion of food.
Thanksgiving and Christmas food drives are over and most of that
food is gone. This program allows girls to: discover how
community outreach is a life skill that can be used every day and
how girls can challenge their community to share; connect to
promote this activity through team building and cooperation that
will bind them together within their community; and take action
to learn more about hunger in their community and help inspire
others to make a difference in each community. Cost for patch: $1.25
Widen
the Circle
Introducing three ways to “Widen the
Circle” of friends at Girl Scouts of Maine. These patch program
options encourage our current members to spread the word about Girl
Scouting, while in turn they will make new friends; develop new
skills while helping others learn about the fun, friendship and
power of girls together, help new girls join a troop where they will
build courage, confidence, character, and make the world a better
place.
Good Turn
Days
Work in partnership with Goodwill
Industries of Northern New England to do community service in your
area. The community service begins with collecting gently used
clothing, linens and toys to donate to Goodwill.
Sign Language Award
Deaf people around the world speak many different languages. Here in the United
States, American Sign Language, or ASL, evolved when American deaf people wanted
to communicate with one another. Although there are other American Sign
communication systems that are word-for-word translations of spoken English into
signs, only ASL is a true language. It’s important to be polite when using ASL
or any language. For all levels, participants earn a sign language pin that
says “I love you.” Click

Junior Girl Scout Badge
The USA is a very special place to live. It provides all of its people with the
freedoms necessary to lead a happy life. Find out how to celebrate the things
that make the United States unique.

Wave the Flag
Brownie Girl Scout Try-It
The USA is a very special country. For hundreds of years, people from other
countries have come to the United States to visit, live or work. Try these
activities to celebrate what makes the United States of America special.

Native American Lore
Learn about the Native Americans in our area, their history, food, language,
culture and dance. Visit a museum that exhibits Native American art and learn to
appreciate the first Americans of the northeast, including the Abnakis whose
name we shared at the time the patch was created.

Patriotism
Interest Project Award for Girls 11 to 17
The USA is a unique place to live and work. While it offers many freedoms,
freedom comes with responsibilities. Find out what those freedoms and
responsibilities are by earning this Interest Project.

President
Can a girl become President of the United States? Of course she can! She can
grow up to be anything she wants to be. Girl Scouts of all ages learn to be a
leader in her troop, school, town, city or even Ms. President! Click the

Cake Decorating Patch
Learn how
to create beautiful, basic decorated cakes. Decorating and icing cakes will be
emphasized. Try your hand at some fancy handwork and decorating while earning
this new patch designed by Girl Scout Troop 466.

Learn all about lobsters and lobstering in Maine as
you earn this patch.

Discover Nursing
Nursing
is a profession that involves the use of your intelligence, skill, and
compassion to make a difference in peoples; lives. Completing this interest
project will increase your knowledge of the variety of career opportunities
available in nursing and will increase your awareness of the growing need for
nurses. Books, magazines, videos, internet sites, nursing professionals, nursing
schools, and nursing organizations are available as resources for this project.

Asthma Awareness
Learning
about the respiratory system and how we breathe is the basis of the Asthma
Awareness Patch Program: Helping Girls Breathe Easier. In addition, girls will
develop knowledge of asthma triggers, learn to make healthy choices, and become
responsible members of the community.

Medieval
Merriment
Step into the enchanted land of knights, princesses, and castles. Learn more
about their attire, games, jobs, and parts of a castle.

Historically Speaking Juliette Low
Girl Scouts of all ages learn games and activities from the 1800’s, the
early years of Girl Scouting, and many more fun activities. Included in this kit
is a time line, info on the four World Centers, Victorian and historical Girl
Scout paper dolls, games, recipes, tea, manners and much more.

Historically Speaking Switzerland
Ski down the icy Alps. Learn about yodeling, lederhosen, and homemade hot cocoa.
Go on a scavenger hunt, make paper snowflakes, candle cups, chocolate mousse,
sing songs, and more.

Girls of the Past
Learn about the girls of the past and how they lived their lives. Learn many
games, recipes, skills, and more from the Pioneer, Native Americans, African
Americans, and the Colonial girls.

Outdoor Skills
This program for all ages has a concentration on outdoor camping skills and
activities including, fire building, outdoor cooking, dressing for the weather,
environmental projects and safety skill building. Participants begin with
Level 1 and progress at their own pace to complete any or all levels.

Water Drop
Patch
For Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts 11-17. This project was
jointly developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the
Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital (GSCNC). The purpose of the project
is to encourage girls to: Make a difference in their communities by becoming
watershed and wetlands stewards. Use their skills and their knowledge to educate
others in their community about the need to protect the nation's valuable water
resources. Explore the natural world to gain an interest in science and math.
Use the Internet as a source of information.

Boston
Interest Project Award for Girls 11—17
Come to Boston! Learn about the history and culture of Boston. Visit
Bunker Hill, Boston Common, the New England Aquarium, the Fleet Center, walk the
Freedom Trail and find out what a Busker is, experience and enjoy this great
city.

Hola Mexico
Girl Scouts of Maine has a special relationship with the Our Cabaña World Center
in Mexico. Learn all about Mexico’s culture and people in this fun, fascinating
patch program.

Atlantic
Salmon
For Junior Girl Scouts
Atlantic Salmon are native to Maine waters and a fascinating fish to
study. Learn about this remarkable creature, visit a fish hatchery, and find out
what issues face this species and the Maine fishing industry.

Get With The Land
By earning this patch girls will learn about the Linking Girls to the
Land partnership, work side by side with a federal or state natural resource
agency professional and choose an environmental project or activity in which to
participate or complete.
