Programs
CIT I
Cost: $735
Minimum age: 15
Date: July 13 - August 1
The Counselor-In-Training program is offered with a focus on
developing the knowledge and skills required of a camp counselor.
You will follow a detailed curriculum to review camp craft skills,
camp operations, Girl Scout program objectives, camper
characteristics, job responsibilities, teaching techniques and more.
You will earn a CIT pin upon successful completion of the program.
Junior Maine Guide Program
The Junior Maine Guide Program is unique to the State of Maine. The
Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife created the program to
teach Maine youth important outdoor skills. There are three levels
to the program: Junior Maine Woodsman, Maine Woodsman and Junior
Maine Guide. Each level focuses on specific skills with a test at
the end of the session. Junior Maine Woodsman and Maine Woodsman
take place entirely on our camp property. The Junior Maine Guide (JMG)
learning sessions will take place at Camp Pondicherry and Camp
Natarswi. The test camp for the JMG program will take place at a
site selected by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and
will happen the last week of the session.
Junior Maine Guide
Cost: $900
Minimum age: 14
Date: June 29 - July 25
If you are thinking about a career in forestry or another
environmental career, this is the program for you. It is an intense
program that focuses on building knowledge and skills in all aspects
of outdoor life – backpacking, orienteering, canoeing, fire
building, use of camp tools, outdoor cooking, swimming, setting up
tents, building shelters and more. The fourth week is spent off site
at a test camp run by the Department of Inland Fisheries and
Wildlife. Girls who pass the tests are awarded the Junior Maine
Guide patch. Girls from both camps will spend week one at
Pondicherry, weeks two and three at Natarswi and week four at test
camp.
Junior Maine Woodsman
Cost: $575
Minimum age: 12
Date: July 13-25
This program is the beginning of the Junior Maine Guide progression.
In the Junior Maine Woodsman program you will learn backpacking,
canoeing, fishing, outdoor cooking, orienteering, using an axe and
knife and how to live lightly on the land. At the end of the week,
you can choose to be tested to see if you have earned the Junior
Maine Woodsman patch.
Maine Woodsman
Cost: $735
Minimum age: 13
Date: July 27 - August 15
The Maine Woodsman program includes backpacking, canoeing, fishing,
outdoor cooking, orienteering, using camp tools and learning to live
lightly on the land. At the end of the session, you’ll do a
three-day test camp to use all the skills you have learned and if
you pass, you’ll receive the Maine Woodsman patch.
