Shout out to our Volunteer of the Month, Tina Ouellette!

Tina Ouellette

Tina has a real passion for teaching girls about STEM—and why not?—she’s an Industrial Engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery!

For the past 6 summers, Tina, who is a current Girl Scout leader and mom, has been fueling a fun and educational STEM afternoon at GSME’s Camp Scelkit Day Camp. Tina coordinates a group of volunteer shipyard engineers (mostly women, whenever possible) to offer four different science based activities to the young campers.

From making ice cream to the science of color, to building cars, to propelling rockets, to experimenting with “flinking” (why submarines don’t sink), these sessions are much anticipated each summer and are truly enjoyed by the 40 campers. The line-up changes each year to keep things fresh. Tina has also offered STEM activities at our other camps and various Girl Scout events, actively planning numerous Girl Scout events for her troop and service unit.

We greatly appreciate the time and effort she makes to introduce our youngest campers to the marvels of science and engineering. Congratulations, Tina!
