Martha Bowman

October's Volunteer of the Month is Martha Bowman! Martha has been volunteering with Girl Scouts for over 10 years, helping without fail at every Camp Scelkit “Tents Up and Tents Down” event.

Each spring and fall she recruits a number of other volunteers from her unit at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the Submarine Maintenance Engineering, Planning and Procurement Activity (SUBMEPP) to help open and close the camp in Kittery, ME.

Martha has also devoted time at Camp Natarswi and organized a work crew to spend a half day caulking and painting Scelkit's Trefoil lodge, and replacing the retaining wall around the picnic shelter, along with general grounds maintenance. She has also stopped by the camp on numerous occasions after bad weather events to make sure all is well.

Martha has been one of GSME's unsung stalwart and reliable volunteers, who is always willing to help and recruit others on her crew to do some needed "heavy lifting" at Camp Scelkit. Many thanks to Martha and her colleagues at SUBMEPP for being such an important part of maintaining Camp Scelkit for our Girl Scouts and volunteers!
