Membership Dues 2018
Girl Scouts is the first and largest girl-led organization in the world, and for over a century has been preparing girls in grades K–12 for every day leadership by providing rich experiences for them to explore new interests, face challenges, form new friendships, and make lasting community contributions.
Now in our second century, as we continue the Girl Scout mission, it is important that we keep pace with an ever-changing world. To ensure we have the resources to support our mission, Girl Scouts of the USA’s National Board has decided to increase the annual membership fee to $25, starting on October 1, 2017, for both girl and adult members.
What does this mean for Girl Scouts in Maine?
Starting with the Early Renewal Registration in April 2017 for the 2018 membership year, girl membership dues will be $40 and adult membership dues will be $25. A portion of the girl dues, the $15 Council Service Fee, will continue to remain right here in Maine; the remainder, as well as all of the adult dues, will go to GSUSA to cover the cost of fundamental services supporting the Girl Scout Movement.
Why are dues increasing?
As a youth-serving organization, Girl Scouts must constantly examine how it is meeting the needs of its members. With the extra funding received from additional membership dues, GSUSA will be able to sustain and develop exceptional leadership programs, implement digital innovations and technology to enhance the girl and volunteer experience nationwide, maintain services for 2.7 million members, and engage 59 million alumnae around the world. It will also enable GSUSA to continue to deliver services and support for our Movement’s 112 councils and to provide thousands of volunteers with the relevant resources, tools, and training they need to best serve today’s girls.
Is Girl Scouting still a good value?
Yes! A Girl Scout membership is one of the most valuable investments anyone can make in a girl’s life. When a girl becomes a Girl Scout, she grows into a young woman who is self-confident, strong, and compassionate. She learns how to take risks, tries new things even if she might fail, and learns from her mistakes. She learns how to build and maintain healthy relationships. She becomes more aware of the world around her and uses her talents to make her world a better place. You can’t put a price tag on that!
Early Birds get the GREEN!
As a special incentive, troops will be eligible to receive a $5 rebate for every paid girl membership registered during Early Renewal Registration starting in April 2017. Make sure you renew you and your girls’ membership in the spring for the 2018 year, and your troop will have more funds available for all the fun and adventure you’ll have in Girl Scouts!
