Girl Scouts of Maine Certification Clinics
Girl Scouts of Maine has extended its yearly certification clinics to include:
  • Staff at Girl Scout Camps in New England
  • Volunteer members
  • Other youth camp employees
  • School summer program staff
  • Recreation department employees

GSME welcomes all who need certifications to perform their summer positions!

GSME provides qualified instructors and course materials. Receiving credit for a course is determined by the instructor. Enrollment does not automatically guarantee certification. Download a Certification Course Registration Form.

Girl Scouts of Maine camps have a smoke free policy and make no exceptions to this rule. We do not allow the presence of alcohol or recreational drugs for any reason. Please do not bring fireworks, small children or pets to training.

All courses start at 9 a.m. Ending times may vary. Courses scheduled for two days or more will have evening classes. Fees include meals and accommodations for the duration of your course.

Participants are invited to stay additional nights for a fee of $10 per night, which includes accommodations, breakfast and dinner.

Accommodations
All certification courses will be offered at Camp Pondicherry in Bridgton, Maine.
Courses scheduled for multiple days will have evening classes, and fees include meals and accommodations, which will be provided for participants in tents and cabins.

Indoor accommodations can be provided for individuals with medical needs that require
electricity. Bathrooms with hot showers are available throughout camp.

Be sure to bring toiletries, towels and bedding. Meals will be provided by our food service and served in the dining hall.

Please note any dietary restrictions on your registration and health forms so that we may prepare for your stay with us.

Health Forms
A health form signed by a physician within 24 months, which must include a health history and up-to-date immunization record, must be mailed or faxed to our office prior to your course.

Teen Participants
Some of our courses are open to teens ages 16-18. Minors must submit a release form signed by their parents or guardian prior to participating in the course

American Red Cross Lifeguard with Waterfront Mod
This course provides instruction in the skills required of a lifeguard on a lake or ocean waterfront.

Designed to teach participants to recognize and respond to aquatic, first aid, cardiac and respiratory emergencies.  Excellent physical endurance a must, all requisite tests will be performed in the lake.  Participants must be 15 year of age or older.

New England Archery Level I Instructor
Designed specifically for summer camp and other short term programs, this course teaches participants how to set up and operate a safe archery program, how to teach new archers to learn common shooting errors and correction, and how to maintain archery program equipment. No prior experience required.  Certification is good for three years

American Red Cross Wilderness Remote First Aid
This course prepares participants to properly handle emergencies in the wilderness setting when arrival of help is delayed or non-existent. Some previous training in first aid helpful, but not mandatory.  Course does not include CPR; this must be taken in a separate course.  Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid
Participants need no prior knowledge for this course.  CPR can be taken separate from First Aid.  Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
Advanced version of CPR required to maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.  No prior knowledge of CPR required for this course.  Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

American Red Cross Small Craft Safety/Basic Water Rescue
Prepares participants to recognize and respond to small craft emergencies and provide appropriate rescue instruction on boating safety skills.   Training on how to properly instruct small craft rescue techniques. Participants must be 17 years or older and must pass in-water swim and watercraft test.   The primary craft of focus for this course will be canoe.

Challenge Course/ Low Ropes Facilitator
This course focuses on the challenge process, instructors are taught how to prepare a challenge from participant’s goals and how to guide the group to meet their goals.  Instructors partake in how to choose and offer both non-element and element initiatives and receive hands on training on the low ropes elements.  Safety skills are a major part of this course.

Maine State Trip Leader Safety
The purpose of this course is to learn and review basic safety aspects of leading trips, including the legal aspect.  Information regarding proper food handling and cleaning techniques while on the trail will be covered.  Minimum age requirement is 18 and must have some tripping experience.

Leave No Trace Workshop
Through this nationally recognized training you will be able to demonstrate minimum impact techniques and outdoor ethics while in the wilderness and in your community.  This course is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts.  No prior training or experience required.  Participants must be 16 years of age or older. 

June 24, 2012, 9 a.m.                                            Fee: $ 60

Leave No Trace Community Instructor
Through this nationally recognized training, you will be able to demonstrate and teach minimum impact techniques and outdoor ethics to youth adult and community groups.  This course is ideal for Trip Leaders and Outdoor Living Skills Counselors.   Participants will need to bring their own personal camping gear for a one night backpacking trip.  GSME will provide food and group gear.  Participants should have some camping and backpacking experiences.

Troop Camp Training (Classroom) (Part 1 or 2)
This Girl Scout specific training prepares participants for an outdoor training experience.  Course focuses on working with youth in the outdoors, purposes and values of the outdoor experience to the individual, goal setting and achievement, equipment and menu planning for a successful event.  A must for camp counselors, school program staff and Girl Scout volunteers.  Participants must be 18 years or older to attend.

Troop Camp Training (Outdoor) (part 2 of 2)
This Girl Scout specific training teaches participants safe practices while working with youth in the outdoors.  Course is hands on with a focus on sleep systems, shelter building, fire building, food prep and service, knot tying and outdoor ethics.  A must for camp counselors, school program staff and Girl Scout volunteers.  Prerequisite course of Troop Camp Training classroom is mandatory.
