GSME invites girls to attend the Girls' World Forum, July 12-16

The Girls’ World Forum will take place in Chicago, July 12-16 and is an opportunity for 14-18 year old Girl Scouts and young adult volunteers to participate in a World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) Centenary event and to address the global action theme of “Together We Can Change the World,” based on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Girl Scouts of Maine can send 2 girl delegates and one adult chaperone.
Each selected Delegate/Chaperone will be responsible for:
~  Travel to and from Chicago
~ $300 of the registration fee ($350 to be paid for by Girl Scouts of Maine)

Girls and adults who are interested in attending should submit their applications to serve as a delegate or chaperone to Samantha Lott Hale (shale@gsmaine.org) by February 9, 2012 for consideration.  Those who are selected will be notified by February 14, 2012.

1)      What is the Girls’ World Forum? The Girls’ World Forum is the third and final event in a series of forums that are part of the WAGGG’s global centenary celebrations. The World Forums, hosted by Girl Guiding UK in 2010 and the World Centers in 2011, have already engaged over 250 young women in discussions of the WAGGGS Global Action Theme, girls worldwide say “Together We Can Change Our World,” which address the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). 

2)     Where will the Forum take place? The Girls’ World Forum will be hosted in Chicago, Illinois at the Marriott Downtown.

3)     What date (s) is the Forum?  The Girls’ World Forum program will start on July 12th-16th.   Travel days are July 11th and 17th.

4)     Who can attend?  Girl Scout Councils/Member Organizations can select and send 2 Girl Delegates and 1 Young Adult Chaperone.  Delegates must be between 14 and 18 years old at the time of the event.

5)     What is a Young Adult Chaperone?  A Young Adult Chaperone is an active volunteer between the ages of 18-30. 

6)   What will the Chaperones be doing all week?  All Chaperones will engage in a parallel program that will assist them in supporting girls in the Global Girl movement.  Additionally the program will also offer volunteers opportunities to integrate global programs throughout their council.    At the end of daily program activities Chaperones will monitor their girl delegates. 

7)     Are Young Adult Chaperones required?  Young Adult Chaperones are preferred however if Councils are unable to find an appropriate fit in this category another volunteer chaperone outside the age range is acceptable.
 
8)     How are Delegates and Young Adult Chaperones selected?  Girl Scout Councils/Member Organizations will make the decisions on who will represent them at the forum.  Please contact them for more information.

9)     Can we send girl delegates without a Chaperone?  All Girl Delegates must attend with a Chaperone.  Young Adult Chaperones are preferred.
 
10)     Wouldn’t two adults be required to travel with the girl delegates according to our Adult-to-Girl Ratios? Please be assured that the Adult-to-Girl ratio will be met at the event.  Regarding travel to the event, it is not necessary for two adults to accompany the girl delegates during their travel to/from the event. One adult is sufficient.

11)   What does the registration fee cover?  The $650 registration fee will cover your hotel accommodations, meals, and program activities.  Participants will be responsible for their travel to Chicago.
