Girl Scouts of Maine announces they have put their building, located at 156 North Main Street in Brewer, on the market effective April 29, 2009.
Following an analysis of the property and thoughtful deliberation, the Girl Scouts of Maine Board of Trustees recommended the sale of the property that currently houses the Brewer Service Center and Girl Scout Shop.
“Delivering the very best leadership program for girls remains our top priority and we will continue to be based in the Bangor / Brewer area,” says Girl Scouts of Maine Board President, Karen Keim. “We’re looking to buy or lease a new space that offers a work environment where our staff can continue to be mutually supportive and one that provides greater visibility for our Girl Scout shop.”
The building that houses the Girl Scouts of Maine Service Center and Shop, located at 156 North Main Street in Brewer, is for sale.
Over the years, Girl Scout council headquarters have been located in both Bangor and Brewer and have been at the North Main Street location since 1990.
Prompted by Girl Scouts of the USA’s Core Business Strategy, in 2007 the two Girl Scout councils in Maine realigned to form one high-capacity, statewide council.
“Our legacy council, the Abnaki Girl Scout Council, had already considered selling the Brewer property,” says Keim. “But plans to put the building on the market were delayed so that staff could focus on the realignment. Now, as Girl Scouts of Maine, we’re continuing to use our resources wisely and following the board’s recommendation, we believe relocating the service center and shop is the right move for the organization.”
