Karen Hadley Keim appointed to serve on the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women in Maine

Karen KeimGirl Scouts of Maine announces that Karen Hadley Keim, President of the Girl Scouts of Maine Board of Directors, has been appointed to serve on the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women in Maine.

Keim, who was appointed on January 3, 2011, by former Governor John E. Baldacci, will serve a two-year term.  The commission works with the governor and legislature to promote, carry out, and coordinate programs designed to improve opportunities for women in Maine.

Individuals serving on the commission must have knowledge of the problems facing women in the State; experience in advocacy relating to women's issues; and provide leadership in programs or activities that improve opportunities for women.

Keim, of Veazie, is the Associate Director of the TRIO Outreach Programs at the University of Maine.  The federally funded initiative is designed to assist low-income individuals, particularly those from first-generation college families, to prepare for, enter and succeed in post-secondary education. 

Keim also serves on the Women's Employment Issues Committee of the Maine Jobs Council; the TANF Advisory Council; and the Financial Literacy Advisory Council.  She is a former member of the Commission to Develop Strategies to Increase Postsecondary Access, Retention & Completion for Low-wage, Low-Skilled Adults.

Girl Scouts of Maine builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. The organization serves over 16,000 girl and adult members statewide, and operates service centers and shops in South Portland and Bangor.
